Many thanks and congratulations for doing such a thoroughly resourceful and artistic job with the boys last night. [My son] knows his dad is rarely satisfied by the standards attained by young musicians and their mentors, so it gave me a particular pleasure to see his delight at my expressions of genuine appreciation. Last night's performance was the first time he has played in a real symphony orchestra, by the way: I can only guess at the kind of lasting impression that it will have made on a boy who turned 14 only the day before.
