Ralph is the conductor of this Choral Society. He directs the 185-strong ensemble in performances of the established classics and works by Monteverdi, Howells, Dankworth, Nielson, Bernstein and Spicer.
The Society gave its first public performance in Windsor while William IV was still on the throne, qualifying it as one of the ten oldest Choral Societies in the country. Founded by the then Organist of St. George's Chapel Windsor, it has always had a close connection with both St. George's and Eton College.
In 2009 The Society performed to full houses in three concerts at Windsor Castle. They also participated in the 2007 Falklands commemoration ceremony televised from Horse Guards Parade and in the hugely successful May 2008 Royal Windsor Tattoo featured on BBC1.
The Windsor and Eton choral Society and accomplished soloists thrilled a sold out Eton School Hall on Tuesday evening with a ‘bravura’ performance of Elijah. Led by conductor Ralph Allwood the 150 strong choir and Eton Festival Orchestra delivered an uplifting and dramatic performance of Mendelssohn's work. … A wonderful and uplifting evening was enjoyed enthusiastically by a hugely appreciative audience and all participants.
